But in the meantime being that his mother's day, I suppose we needed to utilize mothers or Praise the mothers or whatever you want to call it Give mothers a good word I told you many times. No, I'm not gonna tell you that again You're tired of hearing that so I won't tell you You ever met someone who was courteous Kind Appreciate it their family appreciated their wife. That's hard to find, isn't it? Appreciate their husband, so is that. Do you ever meet someone who was content appreciated their children? Content with life felt like a success even though others didn't think so. Do you ever meet someone who had logic common sense excepted the good and the bad? Not very many people do that. Reach the Bible takes the kids to church, have you ever met anyone with any or all of these qualities? Well, you've made many people with some of the qualities, but not very often you meet somebody with all of those qualities. But we're going to take a look at someone in the Bible this morning who has probably all of those qualities and why. But before we go there and take a look at this person, go on your Bibles to Proverbs 31st proper, very last proper in the Bible. At the heading to the 31st proper, it said the words of Lemuel or something like that. Lemuel, not the Mule, Lemuel. And it means belonging to God, it's the symbolic name of Solomon. So Lemuel is really Solomon. And Solomon said the words of King the prophecy that his mother taught him, and then he goes on to tell us the prophecy that his mother taught him. And let's go on down if you will, and all the way down, let's see here, verse 10, his mother gave him prophecy, and then Solomon praised his mother. In the beginning in verse 10, who can find a virtuous woman for her price as far above rubies? The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands. She's like the merchant's ships she bringeth her food from afar. This is all praise of the mother, the wife, the good mother, the good wife. You know, when I was a first grad saved, I used to hang around with the Baptist, because I didn't want to hang around with a lot of other people anymore. So I started hanging around. They all said, you know, you're the head of the house. You're supposed to take over and pay the bills and you're supposed to run things. You're supposed to be the boss. Get the whip, crack the whip. Well, that's a joke. That's not true. That's a lie. My wife pays the bills in our house and she does a pretty good job. I don't want to do it. And she allows me to be the boss when she feels like it. But she does a good job. Everything we own is paid for. She paid for our home, it's paid for. Everything we own is paid for. She does a good job. She's a virtuous woman. My mother was a virtuous woman. They're hard to find, aren't they? So that thing about fellows, when somebody tells you you're the head of the house and don't let your wife take a charge, that's a joke. I'll bet you have the guys in here who can't do a better job than the women do. I don't want any more and four or five dollars in my pocket because I'll blow it on nothing. Out there, give me three dollars and some gas in my pickup truck and I'm happy. That's all I need. My wife says you need money. I'll say no. Asker's true, isn't it? Yeah. I don't want it. I'll spend it on nothing. So anyway, back to the Bible, if you will, in verse 15, she brings her food from afar in verse 14, verse 15, she rises also while it is yet night, and give us meat to her household and a portion to her maidens. I remember my grandmother. She used to get up at three o'clock in the morning. I don't know why she even bother going to bed and get breakfast ready for my grandfather so he can go to work. And they made me get out of bed at four o'clock so I could eat breakfast with them. I hated it. I'm not going to tell you what me and my brother used to do. That wouldn't be right. No, my wife said no. She knows what it was. My grandmother. And she used to make eggs every morning. She made fried potatoes, biscuits, eggs, coffee, and what else is she make? Gravy? She made, what they call salt pork, like a bacon, you know. Every morning, she had to start a fire in a wood burning stove to do all this. It's amazing. A virtuous woman is hard to find. Give it to her household. She rises the early. She sure did. She consider it the field and buy it. Well, Baptist, you're all wrong, aren't you? You Baptist are wrong. You Baptist says she doesn't have a right to do that. She's the woman of the house, all she has to do is wash dishes and vacuum the floor. That's not true. She considered the field and byeth it with the fruit of her hand, she planted the vineyard. She girded her loins with strength and strength of her arm. She perceived it that her merchandise is good. Her candle goes not out by night, in other words, she's always vigil. She layeth her hands to the spindle and her hands hold the dish that by the way follows. If you ever thought about being a preacher, you ought to go read these verses every once in a while because if you've got a woman like this, you'll never be a preacher unless you do. Mark it down. Ladies, if you're here today and if your husband wants to aspire to be a preacher, you better get behind him and back him, because that is the most noble position in the world. Let me tell you. You know, there's nothing better than a good man and a good woman together, sir, on the Lord. Do you know that? Husbands, appreciate your wives, and if you've got a good wife that's going to let you get into the ministry and support you, you better be proud, and you better, you better cherish her for that. And ladies, if he wants to do that, you better support him. I'm just telling you, verse 20, she stretches out her hand to the poor. She reaches forth her hands to the needy. She's not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household, in other words, she's ready for winter. Doesn't matter what it is, she's ready, she's prepared. She make of herself coverings of tapestry or clothing as silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he stood among the elders of the land. Why? Because of her? Not that he's such a great guy. She make a fine linen and sell with it and deliver the girdles into the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing and she shall rejoice in time to come. In other words, she's a good person now when she meets the Lord. Things are going to be even better, amen? Yeah. You'll reward her. Believe it. She opened her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the law of kindness. You know something I wonder why the air wraps don't read these verses? You know what they think of their women? women. And if you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you believe this is his word you ought to you cannot imagine how lucky you are because this is just the opposite of what the Quran teaches by the way. This is how God looks at women the God of the Bible not the God of the Quran believe me there's a big difference where was I she opened her mouth with wisdom, verse 26, and in her tongue is the Law of Kindness. She looked as well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness, busy, busy, busy. Her children raise up early and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praise her. Tell us, praise your wife. And if you had a good mother, praise your mother. Many daughters have done unvirtuously but thou excellest them all. Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fear the Lord, she shall be praised. I'll tell you, folks, there's nothing better than a godly mother. Mothers are fine, there's nothing wrong with mothers, but God says a godly mother is to be praised. We like to take a look at a mother this morning, and I like to take a look at a man basically in the Bible, and who was very, very special, and the reason is his mother. So turning your Bibles to Acts chapter 16, we're going to hurry through this because we're running out of time, Acts chapter 16, or the 16th chapter of Acts, whichever comes first. the Apostle is traveling, and in his travels he comes to a place called Derby, in Lestra, in Acts 16, then came he, Paul, to Derby and Lister, and behold, I behold, a certain disciple was there named Timothy. Somebody you probably never heard of too much, Timothy. I know we have two books in the Bible, called First and Second Timothy, both written by Paul the Apostle, they were written to someone special, a person by the name of Timothy, and he was special for a reason. A certain disciple was there named Timothy, the son of a certain woman, a certain woman, the woman in Proverbs chapter 31, no doubt, who was a Jewish and believed, but his father was a Greek. Timothy was well reported of by the brethren that were atlistor and iconium. By the way, he was well reported of long before he met Paul the Apostle. Long before him would Paul have to go forth with him. Why? Because he was special. Paul just met him. He stayed in his house a few days apparently. And when he left, he wanted Timothy to go with him. He was special. Him would Paul have to go forth with him and took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those quarters. I'm not going to go in all that. But you've got to be really willing to serve the Lord, don't you? I mean, think about it. And as they went through the cities, they delivered them to decree to keep that were ordained above the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem. And in verse five, and so were the churches established in the faith and increased in number Why? Because Paul thought enough to take Timothy. Not just Paul, Timothy. And there's a reason for that. Turn in your Bibles to 2 Timothy chapter 1, if you will. What time went by? Quick. That's okay. 2 Timothy chapter 1. Why was Timothy special? Well, his mother was a Jewish believer. By the way, her husband was a Greek, doesn't say he was a believer. But I'll tell you what, she was such a wonderful person, her husband, who was not a believer, just allowed her to have her own way. And he also allowed her to raise his son Timothy. Second Timothy chapter 1, if you will, verse 5. By the way, in verse 2 Paul says, to Timothy, my dearly beloved son, he wasn't his real son, but he was his son in the faith. Verse 5, Paul said, When I call to remembrance the unthained faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother lowest, and thy mother unis, and I am persuaded that in thee also, his unthained faith that was first in his mother and his grandmother. And then in verse 6, wherefore I put the in remembrance, that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. And then in verse 13, Paul said, Hold fast the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me in faith. Notice the words here, if you will, hold fast the form of sound words which thou hast heard of me, not from me but of me in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus in other words Paul saying, be like me, and he was. That good thing which was committed unto the keep by the Holy Ghost who dwelleth in us. Now then, if you will, turn over here to chapter 3, if you will. Same book, chapter 3, look in verse 14. The continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and has been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them. where did he learn that? His mother. Notice the next verse. And that from a child, thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise and to salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus' look up here for just a minute. From a child, he knew the Scriptures. He learned the Scriptures, where did he learn them from? His mother. And She learned them from the grandmother. But notice what the scriptures do. They are able to make the wise and to salvation through faith. The most important thing a mother can do is tell her children about that. Number one, mothers, whatever you do in this life. You have children? tell your mother's about John 316. If you ever do anything else, Mark, tell your children that God so loved them that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, that if your children believe in him, they will never perish, but have everlasting life. That's exactly what Paul is talking about. And because of that, because that foundation was instilled in Timothy. By the way, that was instilled in Timothy long before Jesus Christ even died on the cross. Because his mother and his grandmother knew that Jesus Christ was going to come and die on the cross. He learned it from the scriptures, the Old Testament, from his mother and Eunice. And Paul said, continue thou in the things which thou hast learned from your mother and has been assured of salvation from your mother, knowing of whom thou has learned them, your mother, and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures because your mother taught it to you. That is the foundation, mothers for the rest of your children's lives, believe it or not. If you have children and you want them to grow up to be the kind of person Timothy was, then teach him that very basic principle, that very basic doctrine, and they will grow up to be like Timothy. Notice what Paul said about Timothy. Go to the first Timothy, if you will, chapter 4. Just a couple of the things that Paul said about Timothy. Notice, if you will, in chapter 4. Let's see here, verse 12. By the way, notice verse 11, if you will. Paul said to Timothy, these things command and teach. You know what Timothy was? He was a leader. He was strong in the faith. Command and teach, Paul said he had strength. He had the ability to take man and teach him and command them and tell this is what God said and no doubt he got all that from his mother but notice verse 12 let no man despise thy youth he was young in other words he didn't stand back by the old men and allow the other men to tell him what to do and how to think he said oh wait a minute I know what the Bible says let no man despise thy youth but be an example do you ever think about being an example do you know you can't lead anybody to Christ unless you're an example. You can't do it. Timothy was an example, but he was young. An example of the believers in Word, notice this, if you will. In Word, conversation, which really means conduct, be an example in conversation, conduct, in love, charity means love, in spirit, in faith, in purity, till I come give attendance to reading to exhortation to doctrine. All of these things Timothy had because it was instilled in him by his mother and to begin with that. John 3, 16, for God so loved the world. He loved you, Timothy, Paul, everybody in his room. He loved my mother. He loved my father. He loved me. I don't know how, but he did. That's the beginning right there. Neglect not the gift that is in the which was given the by prophecy and so forth. Now just turn over to chapter 6 if you will. Running out of time quickly. Notice what Paul thought of Timothy. Now we can go all through 1st and 2nd Timothy. We can go to 1st Corinthians chapter 4. We can go all through the Bible and point these things out about Timothy. But you can do that one of these days when you have time, if you're not too lazy. But in chapter 6 verse Paul said, notice what he said about Timothy. But thou, O man of God, notice that. Timothy, thou, O man of God, how did he become a man of God? His mother. His mother put it in him. She instilled it. She taught him. She trained it. Flea the things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. All these things, Timothy had because they were instilled by his mother. And I don't know if Timothy was married or not. I never found anything in the Bible concerning his wife or whatever. Doesn't matter. But I do know one thing. If you had a good mother, then tell her happy mother's day. And if you are a mother, then be the kind of mother God wants you to be. Because your children are no different than Timothy. Timothy was raised and nurtured in the Bible. It made him what he was. It made him the man that Paul said, oh, man of God, the Bible, the word of God. Pick it up, read it, study it, learn it, teach it to your children. Teach it to your husband if he doesn't know it. Husbands, teach it to your wives, that's pretty hard to do. I know. But this was written for your betterment, makes a better person out of you, makes you the kind of person God that Father wants you to be through Jesus Christ. In other words, ladies, we're happy about our mothers and if you are a mother, then raise your children away. God wants them raised in this book, Amen? And it all begins with, for God so love the world you that he gave his only begotten son, that's Jesus Christ, that whosoever, believe within him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. That is the foundation for the Christian life right there. If you don't do that, your children are a danger of a pretty hot place. Ladies, it's up to you to keep them out of there, isn't it? You know who a child listens more than the old man. Mom, it's true. I don't remember too much about my dad, frankly, he took his fish and wants it a great while but mom was always there. Mom is the one who, well, beat me when I needed it, that managed me when I needed it, and fed me when I needed it. Mom was always there. Thank you mom, we appreciate it. If you're here this morning, you don't know you're gonna have him when you die. Let me just show you this little thing, which we already did partially, but God says we're all sinners, right? But God loved us, didn't he? It's my sin that he hates. He loves me. I don't know why, but he hates my sin. The Bible says Jesus Christ died on the cross was buried and rose again for the forgiveness of sin. The Bible says, oh, you have to do is believe it. Do you believe he died on the cross for you? Do you? Well then if you have any children make sure they know it too. I don't you. Okay, let's have word of prayer. We'll close this morning Dear Lord, we thank you for people who do know the Bible people who learn the Bible the most of all we thank you for good moms Who raised their children in the Bible God said they are blessed and They will receive future rewards God said husbands look up to your wife if she's a good mom Look up to your mom if she's a good mom and we just thank you for the opportunity to celebrate mom on Mother's Day in Christ's name.
